Lever to Housing Installation Press
This
station was designed and built to install a lever onto a control housing.
The housing includes a lock feature to retain the lever in
position after assembly,
however, the interference fit between the lever and the lock
feature make it difficult
to press the lever onto the housing without damaging the lock
feature.
This station mechanically releases the lock feature for the
lever to be installed without damage to the components.
The lever is placed onto the alignment tool and is held in
position with magnetism.
After the spring is installed onto the lever, and the housing
has been placed into the nest, the assembly is performed.
The lever must first rotate forward and down, to position it
directly over the locking ears.
Then the release mechanism extends to close the lock feature,
enabling the lever to be pressed over the lock.
Once the lever is in position, the release mechanism returns,
and the lever is locked onto the housing.
The press rotates back to the loading position and the cycle
is complete.
The Lever to Housing Press is really a fixture that is
installed on a machine base, which incorporates standardized mounting and I/O so
that a single machine base can facilitate many functions through the various
tooling fixtures that can be designed around it. When a specific fixture is not
in use, it may be stored on the rear of the machine with the rack attached to
the base. Fixture ID is automatic, so it becomes "plug and play" automatically
calling for the appropriate program sequence when the fixture is installed.
